Preseason Training will commence on Sunday 22nd at 2pm. Please note that this is a change in date from which was previously advised.

We will be training at Duncan Fraser Reserve, Rowe Avenue, Northfield.

All new players are welcome, so if you have any friends that are interested in playing can you please forward this e-mail through to them. Also if you
know of any members who have changed their e-mail address or not on e-mail can you please let then know.

The association is looking at getting a boys junior competition up and running, so if you know boys under the age of 15 that would be interested please
ask them to come along.

In addition, the club would also like to nominate for u15 girls and a modball team (mixed), so if you know of anyone again please forward the
information through to them.

The committee is also calling for nominations for coaches. At this stage, we are planning to nominate 3 senior teams (at a minimum) and the junior
teams as stated above.

If you are interested in coaching or taking on an assistant coaching role please forward your application through to secretary@eagles.asn.au.

If coaching or playing is not your thing, we are also looking for people who are interested in umpiring and scorers. You don't need to know how to
umpire or score, we have people within the club who are more than willing to teach you what you need to know.

Other club news

Tonight we held our Annual General Meeting. Thank you to all those members that attended.

The committee for this season is

President: Sharon Perkins
Vice President: Judith Lukas
Joint Secretary: Kim Sanderson and Michelle Nichols
Asst Secretary: Josephine Kunde
Treasurer: Sharon Perkins
Uniforms and Equipment: Catherine Gregory
Fundraising: Catherine Gregory
Junior Development: Deb Kennedy

Welcome and thankyou to new members on the committee. It is good to see all positions on the committee filled.

A special thanks goes to Margaret Clark who after many years of being Treasurer has decided to take a well deserved break. Margaret was also
awarded Honorary Life Membership to the club for her commitment over the last 7 or so years.

Come and Try day

The Association is running a Come and Try day on Saturday 4th September, from 10am - 2pm at Ridley Reserve, Elizabeth. As a club, we need to
support this event through the provision of volunteers to help and on the day. So if you can help, can you please let me know. I would also
encourage our junior members to participate in this event

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 22nd August.

Cheers

Sharon Perkins
President
Valley View Eagles Softball Club

Dear Life Members and Club Members,

The Valley View Eagles Softball Club AGM will be held at: 32 Queensborough Ave, Hillcrest, entering off Fosters Road, on the 9th of August, at 7pm. ( Cathy Gregory’s house.)

All committee positions become vacant at that time and I invite all members to consider whether or not they are interested in a position on the committee. I’m only too happy to talk to anyone about the various positions, and what they entail. In many cases no more than a couple of hours per week, at a maximum. This season we operated without a Secretary which I would not like to see occur for a second season.

I invite nominations for Honorary Life Members to be made in writing at the AGM, criteria for Honorary Members is contained in the Club Constitution, which I can provide to anyone interested in making a nomination.
I ask all committee members and coaches to provide a brief written report for the season, this can be sent to me before the evening.

Please forward this to any members you know have recently changed their e-mail address.

Kind Regards,

Judith Lukas

President VVESC

Welcome back to the new year, and already many of you have played plenty of softball!!!

We had a late start to the season with January 9th not played due to extreme heat until the following weekend, the 16/17th.

Club teams had a successful return to softball with Div 2 with 3 wins from 3 games, Div 1 2 wins and 1 narrow loss to Uni playing with the advantage, and div 3s with 2 wins and 1 loss.

Thank-you to all members for ensuring all teams had players, it is greatly appreciated when members freely offer to fill in for teams that are short of players.

This weekend saw many of our seniors take part in the State Championships with the Masters team and D grade taking out the championships at West Beach. I think it’s fair to say the calibre of our players contributed greatly to success of those teams. Congratulations to: Michelle Nicholls ( A grade), Cheryl Brown, Kim Sanderson, Isadora Roberts, Jacqui Richardson, Rebecca Blundell (Masters), Deb Kennedy, Mel Gilboy, Lisa Warnest, Rebecca Hall (D Grade) Sorry if I missed someone!

On New Years Eve Day club members manned the BBQ at Bunnings Parafield, and I’m very happy to say we walked away with a tidy profit of around $800. Thank-you to all those who so generously spent time in very hot conditions on the day, most especially Cathy Gregory, who is the driving force behind our fundraising efforts.

The club Quiz night is fast approaching us, on the 13th of Feb, it is not only a fundraiser but a fun social event for the club, so get in early and book your table to avoid disappointment!

Training tomorrow night has been cancelled, enjoy your Australia Day holiday!

Div 1 and 3 are playing at 12.45 this Saturday, and Div 2 at 4.45.

I have just negotiated a change to our base umpiring so Div 2 don’t have to provide base umpires this Saturday for the second time in a row. But I do need two umpires either Div 1 or 3 on Dia 2 at 10.45, any takers?

Just a reminder that no players can play down in a LOWER grade for the remainder of the season, including finals. Players can only play UP in remaining games.

It’s been a few weeks since I last posted some news regarding club results, and I’m happy to say the club continues to tick along nicely with all teams competing strongly in their respective grades.

On the 21st of November a third club member, Cheryl Brown, reached the incredible milestone of playing 500 club games for Valley View. She joins fellow club life members: Sharon Perkins (631+), and Kim Sanderson (511+), between the 3 of them that’s a staggering 1600+ games!

On the 28th of November, teams played in the worst weather conditions I think anyone can remember, fortunately Div 3 were spared the experience with a bye that day.

Last Saturday, with the start of our turn running canteen, we had perfect conditions. All teams also recorded wins that day, and we were presented with an opportunity to have a “club” photo of as many members we could gather on the spur of the moment.

I wish to express my thanks, especially, to Cathy Gregory, for all her hard work in preparation for canteen, and to all of you for your continuing support in making this a successful fundraiser for the club. We have over a number of years been able to prevent any fee rises due to the healthy amount in our bank account.

I would also like to thank all of you who have had a turn at umpiring, the worst of our commitments are over now with the end of double headers, and I expect teams will only be asked to umpire every 3 weeks.

Thank-you to all who so generously give of their time to make our club the success it is.

Regards

Hello All,

If you don’t know already Valley View has canteen this coming week and next.
So, we are looking for volunteers to assist with the serving in the canteen
and cooking the bbq. There are no 4:45 p.m. games so we will be out of
there relatively early.

There are still a few items we need assistance with and these are 3 x
lettuces (can shred on day), 3 kgs tomatoes (can slice on day), 60 x cheese
slices (large packs better) and 3 x kg bacon (short-back).

Any donations of the above gratefully accepted.

I will be bringing the canteen list out the training tomorrow night so if
you can help with serving or a donation please see me.

This is one of our major fundraisers for the season so please help if you
can.
