Welcome back to the new year, and already many of you have played plenty of softball!!!
We had a late start to the season with January 9th not played due to extreme heat until the following weekend, the 16/17th.
Club teams had a successful return to softball with Div 2 with 3 wins from 3 games, Div 1 2 wins and 1 narrow loss to Uni playing with the advantage, and div 3s with 2 wins and 1 loss.
Thank-you to all members for ensuring all teams had players, it is greatly appreciated when members freely offer to fill in for teams that are short of players.
This weekend saw many of our seniors take part in the State Championships with the Masters team and D grade taking out the championships at West Beach. I think it’s fair to say the calibre of our players contributed greatly to success of those teams. Congratulations to: Michelle Nicholls ( A grade), Cheryl Brown, Kim Sanderson, Isadora Roberts, Jacqui Richardson, Rebecca Blundell (Masters), Deb Kennedy, Mel Gilboy, Lisa Warnest, Rebecca Hall (D Grade) Sorry if I missed someone!
On New Years Eve Day club members manned the BBQ at Bunnings Parafield, and I’m very happy to say we walked away with a tidy profit of around $800. Thank-you to all those who so generously spent time in very hot conditions on the day, most especially Cathy Gregory, who is the driving force behind our fundraising efforts.
The club Quiz night is fast approaching us, on the 13th of Feb, it is not only a fundraiser but a fun social event for the club, so get in early and book your table to avoid disappointment!
Training tomorrow night has been cancelled, enjoy your Australia Day holiday!
Div 1 and 3 are playing at 12.45 this Saturday, and Div 2 at 4.45.
I have just negotiated a change to our base umpiring so Div 2 don’t have to provide base umpires this Saturday for the second time in a row. But I do need two umpires either Div 1 or 3 on Dia 2 at 10.45, any takers?
Just a reminder that no players can play down in a LOWER grade for the remainder of the season, including finals. Players can only play UP in remaining games.
