Dear members,

with the expected hot weather this week, I wish to advise you if it is 37 as expected this Tuesday softball training will be cancelled.
In terms of our umpiring commitments, I require 2 Div 1 base umpires at 2.45, after we play, at 12.45.
Div 2 have another double header, 12.45 and 2.45, and Div3 a bye. I require 2 div3 base umpires for 4.45, and some div 3 players willing to support div 2 for their two games.
I know these are not great times but I would really be grateful if you could offer your support for these commitments.

Congratulations to all teams and players on the good results from the weekend, and I know we have some injuries we are managing, so many players are helping out in more than one team, so it’s even more of an achievement to be proud of.

Coaches please relay this message to anyone you know is not on e-mail.

Regards

Judith

Div 1 Coaches Report

Valley View Eagles Div 1 side played another two good games to finish double headers off.

In game 1 verses Phantoms, a very strong 1st batting inning set up the game, and this was well supported with solid fielding. Kim kicked off the pitching, but was relieved by Cheryl Brown who pitched strongly over the 40ft distance after recently pitching at the more challenging distance of 43ft at the world masters games. Offensively we tested out all of our arsenal, with hits, bunt and steals well tested. A good game all round played with good spirits from both sides.

In game two we were up against the experience of RRunners div1 side. Despite being very tired and hot as the day wore on, we showed mental strength to keep the game within reach with faultless defence from both sides, and clean safe hits bringing in the runs. In the final inning we clustered together a number of hits to lead RR going into the bottom of the inning by 2 runs. Road runners then were able to show their experience by expertly hitting shallow to the outfield and scoring the runs needed to take the game by 1 run. Very good fielding from all players, and pitching from Kim Sanderson despite injury. Dani Tighe made a starring appearance at centrefield, producing fabulous catches, and batting strongly, living up to her reputation. Many thanks to Dani Tighe and Katy McKay for making the time to be available for us, and allowing us to put together the quality of game it was.
